Thanks Jim. I think we are seeing that too. We have a few years
with Chevy V8 LS1 coils and they seem to be fine.

Thanks for your efforts, I will get the scope onto mine. The 11 volts is a
bit of a puzzle. I would have expected 14 volts. Maybe there is a ballast
resistor. Do you have the circuit diagram?  How is ppm calculated from rpm?
After reading Jim Mederer's email I am inclined to purchase a set of LSI
coils.

Are the LS1 coilpacks available in Australia?  Do you know what is needed to
drive them?  My emails to Tracy bounce for some unknown reason.
Trevor with the Renesis Jabiru is sending me some noise measurements of his
straight out exhaust no muffler. Should be interesting.

Ian,
They are used in Aussie GMH cars and when I enquired about aftermarket types
I was told that because of their reliability they were seldom replaced,
which supports the statements made on this list.
They are however quite expensive. There is a chap who supplies them from the
states and his prices are quite reasonable. There are 3 types -D580, D581and
D585.
The D580 ( used in the corvette) has slightly smaller plug and electrical
connector at opposite ends.
The D581 (used in the Chevy pick-up truck) - signal connector on one end
away from the high voltage lead.
The D585 ( would be my choice) as it has a heat sink and uses the same
connectors as the D581.
However Tracy does not recommend the D581 as he has had two failures with
them so far. I suspect that's why they added the heat sink.
Bob White can supply most parts and connectors, I don't have his e-mail
address ( Paul might) as I have just lost all this on my old computer.
There is also a Company, www. magnacore.com which supplies the connectors
with cable. It would seem that their difficult to wire-up without the right
tooling.
I haven't looked at the Aussie parts because of the price and the lack of
availability of connections.
