I had Ed build me an oil pan with enough setback of both the front
and
rear walls to allow 1"x2" .065 rectangular tubes to mount using the
oil
pain bolts. These tubes are very strong, light and avoid the heat
and
weight issues of aluminum flanges. The pan is about 4" deep and
holds 6
quarts. A 13B pickup tube is a little over 3", reaches almost to the
bottom of this pan, and will fit on a Renesis engine with minimal
modifications. Overall, this is a simple and inexpensive way to
make a
'bed' type mount.
My rear (pusher) mounting tubes are relatively short, so they have
plenty of strength in all directions. A longer engine-to-mount arm
of
this same dimension would obviously need appropriate calculations to
assure it is strong enough.

I have them. Do you want to see them? That will cost you :)
Paul,
Any reason why a composite would not work for an oil pan? It would not
be at all difficult to make a foam male mold and vacuum bag the pan and
flange out of graphite cloth and hi-temp epoxy. We could even mold in
an s-beam if desired...???
Klaus has been flying a carbon fiber oil pan for about five years
or so on his O-200. High temp epoxy was used to mold it.

Paul, thanks for sending the pix on the last post. I was at work
earlier and did not have access to them. Ed did a great job on the
pan.
I strongly considered building a composite oil pan, but was afraid of
the wear on a composite flange sandwiched between the metal of the
block and the beams. The aluminum pan is also very light.
BTW, I used 1/8" 6061 for my oil pan flange. This is just a little
thin --- we got some warping during welding, but nothing that can't be
clamped back into place. Probably 3/16" for the flange would be a
little more stable and not result in much more weight.
Scott Gettings.
You can always bolt on a 1/4 inch thick doubler.
