Hi all -

FYI the Canon Digital EoS series are * not  * electronically  compatible
with the earlier film - cameras of that series ,even though the lens
mount seems mechanically identical.
What price forward compatibility ?
Paul can you upload a pic of the panasonic stills camera  you   referred
to ,  to as it may have another model number on my side of the pond,
thanks.

Not quite true regarding Canon.  The Canon EOS lenses work fine with
their digital series IF you remember that for most of the consumer
cameras, the sensor array is the size of the old APS film.  That
makes all of the old EOS lenses more telephoto than they were with 35
mm film because it must be located closer to the back end of the
lens.  Where a 50 mm lens was considered "normal" with film, it is
now telephoto.  Therefore, to adapt successfully with the consumer
digital cameras, you need really wide-angle lenses from a 35 mm point
of view.

The Canon 5D is the lowest priced camera with a full size (i.e. 35
mm) sensor array. It is considered a "pro-sumer" camera and runs
around $2500 for the body.
