I think it would be a good idea to contact Dave [ Mr. Algie] and see
     what
     he'd charge. A word of
     caution however, in the last while I read a note on his list about
     rotaries, and it would appear
     as though he's not exactly "Pro-Rotary". A good hint is the engine he's
     putting in his
     craft... Ls-1 and/or Ls-7. He mentioned that someone had come up to
     him at
     Osh, trying to
     convince him to put a rotary into his plane and the response, wasn't
     entirely positive.

     I'm still curious to see what he'd charge us for one of these.

Jarrett,
I have communicated at some length with David Algie. He isn't really
anti-rotary, rather he has limited time for his project doing his
full-time job as a constructor for Team Green. He chose the LS1 because
it is familiar technology. Paul, I agree that excellent workmanship
doesn't automatically convey good engineering. I mailed David about his
plan form, he has chosen to construct an elliptical wing and stabilizer.
My comment was even if he has the engineering down perfectly the plane
will still be a "Hot Rock." The elliptical wing usually stalls all at
once. Too hot for my limited flying skills. I should say however that
all the texts I've read suggest good handling other than stall. Algie's
carbon fiber work is superb and I'd love to get him away from the race
team to collaborate on some parts, but like everyone else he has to pay
the bills. I do wish him well on his project.

I can't think of a better way to pay some bills than selling about
20-30 kickass carbon bell housings. My guess is, if he designed
our bell housing for us, I doubt he would have any troubles paying
the bills at least for a couple of years. If someone has a good
relationship with this guy we need to get him to make these for us. he probably could crank out 3-5 a day and be back ordered for the next 6 months, providing he prices the thing reasonably under a $1000 would be nice. I'd pay as much as 1500-1800 for one of those.
 If someone can convince Dave to do this make sure he makes the
housing so it will work with Tracy's stock redrive.
