George ( down under) is referring to the thrust bearings
   in the 13B. Perry Mick destroyed a set after a few years
   with his direct drive set up. They are not designed to withstand
   continuous thrust.

   Charley Airseman did extensive experimentation with a shaft
   direct drive and eventually abandoned it and went with a very large
   diameter composite prop extension.

Charlie certainly takes the weirdness award. That would be only for the
way things LOOK as he seems to have a good handle on the engineering.
The thing that I notice with his set up is that he obviously went
"STIFF" on the torsional vibration equation. I like the flywheel
arrangement with the 6 rather large captured biscuits for his dampening
connection. Charlie also has a good functioning exhaust augmented
extractor correct? Lots of interesting ideas.
