Must agree with you totally here. I grew up with Inches as did Dave,
however even the English have moved to metric, I don't know why they did
that.  I find I have to do everything in duel measurements now.
However I do find it easier if it's made in Metric, as is the Mazda, to
measure it in Metric. I fully understand your reluctance to do so as I was
exactly the same, but in the end I had to convert.

I was watching a English program the other day on home modifications and
this chap was measuring a doorway in metric and explaining what he was
doing, low and behold he suddenly said "measure six inches each side" - he
suddenly relapsed into Imperial measurement. The younger generation work in
Metric only - but we older blokes have to do both. It's something I just had
to get used to.

Everything in the US is still sold and measured in inches, feet,
yards, cubic yards, cubic feet et. etc .etc.. We still use MPH
and Kts. Trying to teach our budding engineers the metric systems
probably turns some of them off.

My grandsons LOVE the metric system. Which is a larger wrench a 10 or
an 11? Which is larger 9/32 or 5/16?

They complain when I grill them on fractions. One of these guys
breezed through calculus and thought it was too easy; this same guy is
helping (major help!) me build the RV and always has to stop and think
about which which wrench or drill bit or ... well you get the idea.

No it does not Doc :) Gold per cubic inch is heavier
than lead per cubic inch. It is called higher density.
Next thing will happen somebody will say a pound of feathers

You get the idea.

Fractions are easy. Always multiply top and bottom
by the same number until all bottoms are equal
and then look at the top to see which is larger.

10/32 (5/16) is larger than 9/32.

Then adding and subtracting becomes easy.
The problem is the teacher.

You handicapped Windows blokes can use the free Firefox browser
and run it all of the time in one of half  a dozen "tabs".
Not as nice as virtual screens but it is a start.
