    I can offer from experience that dealing with all the RTV off the bolts
    during a teardown is an unbelievable pain in the butt.  What a
    mess.  No
    one will be happier than I if there is in fact a better way...

I haven't taken a rotary apart..  How much clearance is there between
the bolt and the housing into which the RTV is squirted?  Is there
enough room for an o-ring of some sort?  Would it be practical to slide
several o-rings onto each bolt - maybe spaced every 4 inches.  Then
instead of putting a bunch of RTV on the bolt, just put a little dab on
each o-ring to keep the o-ring from sliding around..

If heat shrink tube and o-rings aren't the right materials, there's
bound to be something which would work well.  Maybe the right size (to
fit snuggly) silicon lined (for high temp) tubing.  Lube each bolt and
slide 0.5" sections on.

Paul, don't bother sending this to the group if you deem it a dumb
question/idea..

Good idea Matt. One can buy Teflon encapsulated silicone O rings
down to 1/16 inch in section size. Good to 500 F. Might be easier
to slip in.
