I run two clubs on Yahoo, one for the old Audis from 68-76 and one for
my Wankel PU.

Ok, first .... yes ..... one has to "join" to participate in the club or
to see pictures.  I think one can view messages without even logging in.

To join one must simply have a Yahoo email account.  This is your
login.  I don't consider this too much of a problem because I
intentially setup the Yahoo acct  as a secondary email .... that I use
anytime I am at a site that requires me to insert an email address for
verification etc.  This way I don't have to change my main email address
as often ( because spammers got ahold of it)

Second, although my club is not set up in such a way ..... the moderator
can personally accept of deny members into the club.
I guess a spammer could still get in this way but it is not likely.
Even with my club being open ( I don't screen members) I only get about
one spammer a month.  I kill his message then bar him from ever coming back.
