   I think the lists have use a vetting process to determine who gets to
   participate.  I have even heard of humans applying to aviation related
   lists, exchanging emails with the list owner, and then turning the
   address over to a spam-bot.  Without moderating, these things can be
   a mess.

   There is a moderator, me.

   I will quickly delete any spammers or uncivil participants. It's true
   that these Yahoo groups can be pretty farcical for lack of an active
   moderator. This will not happen here.

   If I see that spammers are starting to take advantage I will vet every
   new member application. For the time being I will keep it as open as
   possible.

   Not all Yahoo groups are full of yahoos. I've been a member of the
   Jodel
   Club for some time and it has been great. Lots of collegiality and many
   friendships made, both online and offline.

Hi Gordon,

I am a member of a couple of Yahoo groups as well, and agree that they
can work pretty nicely.  However, the groups I am in which started out
unmoderated have all become moderated, and the moderator approves each
member joining and once in a while kicks somebody out.  No big deal.
The other thing about Yahoo is flakiness.  It seems like the group
settings for email protocol occasionally get's wacked out, and the
moderator doesn't have direct control over it.  Again, not a big deal.
Just something else to live with.

Anyway, I am happy that Paul doesn't want to move his group.  If
EVERYONE did yahoo, yahoo would have a monopoly, and that's rarely good
for the consumer..  An alternative I like is matronics.  Totally
private, and no advertising.  Aeroelectric-connection uses it.   Like I
said, I am happy with this setup however.
