Paul, here are a few photos of the oil pan, now welded. It should
have been cleaned up before I took the photos...The strut
bracket is
milled out of a solid chunk.
I am undecided about how to handle the drain. I am thinking of
welding in a piece of thick wall aluminum tube right on the bottom
corner below the strut bracket in plane with the bottom of the pan.
It would be tapped for a plug. Also, should there be a
fitting for
a drain from the drive? The flange and the back piece that the
strut attaches to are .188" thick. The sides are .125 and the
bottom
is .063. I would like to build the whole thing out of .125 if you
think it is up to the task. Certainly the flange does not need
to be .
188. Perhaps the back piece that holds the strut bracket??
This pan
was a learning experience. The next one will be a lot nicer.

P.S. If any body wants one, for the first three orders I am going
to provide the complete engine mount for any airplane INCLUDING THE
PAN AS SHOWN for $1000. (RV and Tailwind tail draggers would be
more
for the gear mounts of course.)

is the oil pan suitable for a renesis?
I would need a mount for an RV-4.

Thomas, the RV 4 engine mount would look the same as the Tailwind.
Here is a pic of what it will look like except that the S-beam has
been lowered and move rearward to The front of the pan. Jerry
Ed K. also does a good job. Here's my Renesis custom pan.

Ed does a beautiful job on everything he touches. My oil pans are
intended to go with the engine mounts I build so that I can produce
the complete engine mount package in a timely way. But if anyone is
wondering about it, you cannot get a better job anywhere than from Ed
K regardless of what it is you want welded. He is a vastly more
experienced welder than I am. There is no reason why you could not
have Ed build the pan for one of my mounts. Jerry
