Paul,
Right you are - I should have recognised them straight away, but I was
engrossed in the calculations.
I might add I'm very impressed with the Mistral Planetary - it's very
elegant. I am equally impressed with the Bell Planetary and on a gut feeling
I guesstamate the Mistral Planetary would be good to 300 HP and may be 350HP
and although the Bell Planetary has had figures of 1,000 HP bandied around,
I feel it would more likely be 400 ( maybe 450given) the additional RPM
demanded of it. That's if you want a reasonable life expectancy. It probably
take more HP for a shorter period of time

I won't want to put more than 350hp through the unit for short duration's on
TO and climb though 310Hp is probably closer to the truth.  Most of its life
will be run at  slightly more or less than 2000 rpm out.   BTW Bell required
a 1200 hr. overhaul but I believe they beat the box up more with the
applications the craft was designed for.   The 1,000 Hp could not be
confirmed by Dave Garber so who knows but I would expect the engineers
designed the original unit with a  3+ safety factor because of the huge
gyroscopic loads.

The original bearings are dubious at the speeds we will use it for.

I think Mistral is claiming 3000hrs for a TBO on the Engine/PSRU. These type
of PSRUs can be easily taken off and apart though. Personally since I like
to know what is happening in the unit I wouldn't mind to tear it down at 100
and then 300hr periods. The first would be testing and shake down flights
and the second period once around the globe.
