Originally I had the lower mount hard points going to the landing gear
bolts, your original idea. I think that would work best for a new
construction Long-EZ.
There are very few of those these days, most Long-EZs are far along in
construction or flying. People want a mount that is more of a bolt-on,
that doesn't require major hacking on the airframe.
I think the easiest way to make the two lower mount hard points in the
fuselage is to build left and right brackets out of steel or aluminum
and bolt them to the mid and lower longer ons just forward of the
firewall as sketched in on these drawings.

Looks good Perry. Does this mean you are going to finally
build a new motor mount? :) For the new people Perry has been
flying for the last decade or so with the rotary bolted
solidly into his Long-EZ. No rubber bushings anywhere.
All you can feel in the cockpit is a slight high frequency
vibration.

I decided a couple years ago to put off building it until I had to take
the engine off for some reason. That hasn't happened yet, still flying.
I have about 650 hours total since 1999, close to 500 on the 2001 rebuild.
I just started thinking about it again, and decided I didn't really want
to cut away and modify the lower firewall. Other flying EZ guys probably
don't either.
With this method the engine mount could probably be mass produced, and
just the replacement top extrusions and the new lower brackets custom
drilled to fit the mount after being installed on a LEZ.

Well if thats the case you may never get around to it :)
I have never had an aircraft air cooled piston engine without
having to fix one or more cylinders in 500 hours.
Usually an exhaust valve. In fact most of my pilot friends
at the airport will tell you the same thing.
