    Hey Paul,

    My buddy and I were talking about BD5's (not a good idea - Hah!), and
    the discussion reminded me of that little Wankel Cart engine that was
    mentioned here a while back.

    I started pondering making one of these things as a two rotor - seems
    perfect - starts out water cooled and it looks like it might be p-port.
    The only thing I think I don't like are the roller bearings..

    The thing that stuck out when looking at the pics is that the rotor is
    so wide compared to it's other dimensions.

    I imagine this is how the 16B rotors might look...

    I think trying to convert one of these to a two rotor might be
    preferable to converting a 13B to a single rotor, and might end up in a
    similar (slightly lesser) horsepower range. A complete single rotor
    weighs less than 40lbs. It seems that a 92hp 2 rotor might weigh around
    75lbs - light! A 90hp Continental weighs 180lbs+..

    That's a nice little engine. How would you combine two of them, bolt
    the shafts to one another?

    What about the crankcase intake? Wouldn't that be in the way to
    bolting them together end-to-end?

    The specs say 31 kilowatt, which is 41 hp, so two would be 82 hp.

Apparently it is both charge cooled rotor by a side port
and p-ported. That is a new combination. Yep.. the aspect ratio
looks to be almost 1:1. The 16B won't be this good.
However this is an inkling of what the 16B is going to be
like with a p-port.

Kind of hard to make a two rotor with charged cooled
side ports but perhaps the Midwest trick of using an external
blower to cool the rotors might work.

In two rotor form the weight should be around 66 pounds
which is excellent for 82 HP.

I think the engine is breathing limited and a bit of
enlargement of the p-port is in order. Since max rev
are 10,000 RPM I would not be a bit surprised if this
thing would put at 55 HP per rotor at 10,000 RPM. Not as a
good as the Mazda due to the charge cooling but not bad
for a 33 pounds motor. In two rotor form with psru
it should come in at less than 90 pounds and 110 HP.

Are these things actually still in production?  I seem to remember a firm in
Germany selling something similar and going bankrupt.  Someone bought out
the inventory and was selling them off.  I'm wondering about parts and
support further down the line.

As for coupling two engines - a German firm did this about 10 years ago.
Two 70 hp Wankels side-by-side with a belt-drive PSRU.  Haven't heard
anything about them in years.

of years ago. These people are actually shipping product.
