Hi Paul,

I finally got my plane in the air, lifting off at 7:50AM this morning.
OAT was about 40F.  Flew for about 20 minutes, did one stall and landed
to check everything.

I bobbled around a bit on take off getting used to the control feel.
Landing was uneventful.

I will need to do some work on cooling as I expected.  The oil cooler
location is poor with not enough room behind it and oil temps are
running about 10-15 deg warmer than the water.  Both are too high for
summer time flying.  Max oil temp was about 220F, so it was higher than
I wanted to see.  I also want to recheck the calibration on the sensors
just to make sure I didn't mess that up.

Congratulations Bob. Things are starting to pick up. That is at least

You would think I would have a picture somewhere, but I couldn't find
anything very illustrative.  Here is a picture I took of the AN
fittings I'm using.  You can get some idea of the relative locations of
the coolers.  There is an aluminum plate that covers this area when
it's all closed up.  The clearance behind the oil cooler to the redrive
plate is 5" at most.  The aluminum strips you see are riveted around
the sides of the oil cooler and the evap cores. The plenum built into
the cowling seals against these with silicone strips as used on air
cooled aircraft engine baffles.  One option I'm considering is to have
Ed Kelpeis make an oil cooler and water cooler that will fit into the
space where the evap cores are now.  I can eliminate a lot of plumbing
and get more area and volume than I have now.  Still thinking about it.
