Thinking about it, "Rotary Aviation Alliance" sounds like helos and gyros.

I suggest instead "Aviation Rotary Alliance."

Since I'm the first (and so far only) member, that makes putting it up for a vote fast and easy.  So moved, carried unanimously!  ;)

In the computer security world it usually stands for "Risk Acceptance Agreement" - it is for upper management to sign when they want to accept the risks to company and/or customer data for not properly protecting.

There is no TLA (three letter acronym) that has not been used since WW2
or so.  None.  With only 17,576 possibilites, there are merely 2028 that
have an 'R' somewhere in them.  If you want an 'R' and an 'A', you get
156 possibilities.

Regardless, they have ALL been used for something somewhere along the
line, I can assure you.

IMO, what is needed, if you're really serious about all this, is
something that sounds reliable, stable, and respectable.

As a test, use some well-recognized phrases with your idea placed in it.


"Spokesman for [your idea] today said that contemparary rotary
technology would meet or exceed...."
"Today's keynote speaker representing [your idea] is here to discuss
possible integrations of technology..."
"We contacted [your idea] for comment and they said..."

While many of the names suggested so far are somewhat useful and have
various merits, if the seriousness of evangelizing rotary engine
integration is going to be taken public, some thought beyond an
"alliance" needs to be taken.

Another trouble is that "rotary" is not obvious to anyone but
wankel-philes ;-) and other geeky engineering types.  Where the
"Christmas Tree Association" is pretty obvious to anyone -- so when they
publicize a stat like "37.1 million real trees are purchased annually",
the elements of credibility are unquestioned.  Is 'rotary' the best
monniker for public consumption??  They're easily confused, you know.

My ideas?  Dunno that I'm any better at it than anyone else :-)

"Flying Rotary Engines"?  FRE? sounds more like a company
"Wankel Aircraft"?  still sounds more like a company but Felix' name is
open territory by now.

Or instead of using something easily confused, make them ASK what it
means by using the word "Epitrochoid" or "Trochoid" thus adding to their
useful venacular (journalists always love that sort of thing).

"Epitrochoidal Aviation Association"  EAA :-)
"Society of Epitrochoidal Aviation Powerplants"  SEAP -- hey this keeps
getting better ;-)
or
"Non-Piston Powerplant Association" NPPA.

ARA is a fine aftermarket add-on Automobile air-conditioner.  Catchy
theme song, too.

If this is to be a thing, a real organization, with genuine membership
and representation, I would think that a little bit of thought oughta be
allocated.
