What was missing was the oil metering pump. Not the main
oil pump supplying oil pressure to the bearings. The Mazda dealer
mechanic did not know his butt from a hole in ground and erroneously
attribute the engine seizer to the missing metering pump which had
nothing to do with it.

Okay, so my impression was completely wrong, then, after reading the
NTSB report.

Maybe we need to research each Mazda reference in the NTSB database and
work out our own best-guess, so that we can avoid each of these problems
in the future.  This would be a good handout for Oshkosh, too, since it
would only be a page or two to cover them all.
