That could work.  Or how about taking GPS output and alarm if the plane is
within, say 1 1/2 miles from an airport, and less than 1000' AGL and the
gear is up.

The AOA pro is nice; so are radar altimeters; but we need something for
about a third of that cost.

Yes that would work if you could figure out how to get an
airport data base.

Every avionics GPS has airport info in the database.
