Paul what thickness is the bracket on top of the rear beam?  Did you
plan to do a detail drawing of it?   Also,  I assume the bushing is a
Barry Control.  Do you have a part number?    Jerry

3/8th inch. Part number 2001. Here are the drawings.

Maybe you are talking about the steel bracket with the
two ears sticking straight up. Make it out of .065 thick
4130 with long 1/4 inch mounting bolts.

Paul, I think cutting down the mass of the bracket might work.
Certainly worth trying.   Jerry

Do both. Heat and cut down the mass by drilling the small holes
to help the tig welder.

That reminds me of an old joke. These aircraft engineers
were struggling with a cracking problem on a wing skin.
Finally the janitor walks up to them and says. "I can solve
your problem". "Yeh sure" say the engineers. The janitor
sez "drill small holes along this line" and he proceeds to draw
a line about 3 inches long on the wing skin where the crack was.
The engineers say "this guy must be crazy but we tried everything
else. What the heck we will give it a try". Sure enough it worked.
No more cracking. The engineers found the janitor and asked him how
he knew that.

He said "Easy, I noticed that toilet paper never rips across
the perforations".
