Jerry and I have been working on a new RX8 oil pan design to hold
eight quarts and that will fit a lot of motor mounts.
Holds over 8 quarts which should delay the oil over heating
problem on take off. My 230 HP O-470 holds 12 quarts. Aircraft
engines need more oil than car engines.
Also the RX8 engine has problems
with the oil breather in aircraft use as Mazda decided to store more
oil up inside the engine. That allowed them to make the oil pan only
about 2 inches deep and lower the engine in the RX8 car. At high
RPM (6000 to 7500 RPM) it pukes oil unless one builds an elaborate
oil vapor recovery system.
When I first got my RX8 you could cruise
it at 70 MPH at about 3500 RPM and the check engine oil light
would come on. Slow down to 69 MPH and the light would go out.
Speed back up to 70 MPH and the light would come on again.
Mazda did a recall and reflashed the CPU I think to "fix" it:)

Also I need tgo find an oil cooler for my project. I haven't been
able
to locate a used one for the Renesis. A new one is around

Jerry will build you a pan.
Beware of non Mazda oil coolers. The rotary oil pressure
runs up to 150 psi. Pressure test any oil cooler you buy to
300 psi. We have had several oil coolers that burst. One was the
cause of a fatal crash. Two others caused in flight fires
fortunately in the pattern right after take off.
Not a place to save money. The oil cooling is one third of
the total cooling there fore the coolers must be extra large.
