   Karibian,
   I may have the solution for you, but I want Patent rights, Royalties,
   Author and Intellectual rights etc. etc....:)
   When I tried to get new metal exhaust gaskets for my 13B I almost had
   a stroke. $90+ each. So, i got me think'n
   and looking around my hangar. Found left overs from my firewall
   insulation material Fiberfrax:

   "Fiberfrax
   A new material made from washed ceramic fibers with binders added to
   form a lightweight, flexible asbestos-free insulation. Withstands
   temperatures to 2300 F. Excellent for aircraft firewalls."

   So, I used the metal gasket and cut 4 copies from the material.
   Used the old metal gaskets with one of my fresh super secret liners
   on each side. It works better than advertised. 100% leak free even
   with my 1800F EGT's. Removed them after few hours and they were
   perfectly white on all sides with no signs exhaust gasses penetrating
   out. Only draw back is every time you remove the flange, you must cut
   new liners. They compress and stay that way.

   My hangar mate races rotaries and his buddies and engine builders
   started asking how to get this "magic" stuff. Aircraft Spruce is the
   place.

   My engine didn't come with an old exhaust gasket but I could make
   one. Since
   the material is going to be compressed between two metals (the exhaust
   outlet and manifold) why put tne metal spacer in the middle? Karibian


What's fiberfrax normally used for, just insulation?
