Asustek, one of the major motherboard and peripherals manufacturers has
started selling self-baged Laptops. They have several packages, but a
major portion of their business is the "roll your own" custom order
computers. I'm certain they would sell you a system without windoze and
may even have a Linux version already. These are leading edge guys and
have a great rep with the performance computer community.

That is not the problem Bill. Laptop guys use non standard
hardware designs so frequently there are no Linux drivers for
that custom hardware. Generally speaking the hardware
guys have to test the Linux and if necessary write
custom drivers. Desktop's uses standard video cards and
USB chips sets so Linux works right out of the box.

A good compromise is an XPc Space Shuttle.

I own two of the xPC and I run the newsletter on one of them.
They are small enough to carry around.
Linux works great.
