We ran it at Tracy's place on his test stand and I could
feel hot air coming out the front hole with my hand.

I understand Paul, but there was no tailpipe on the muffler. I also
don't believe the cool tube was long enough to form the proper annular
exit. In the photo shown the cool tube should be visible without the
tailpipe The newest Mistral muffler has a good setup. You need to
accelerate the exhaust through the annular ring to draw any air at low
RPM. The whole idea is to use the exhaust energy to pump the air
through. I will do some experiments when I get my engine running,
Bill Jepson.
Yes I understand that.
There is not much energy in the exhaust when the engine
is idling. Mistral is not advocating leaving the cooling
tube open inside the cowl. At least I don't think they
are.
I think you misunderstand my position.
Your system would work fine if provision were made to
connect the cool tube to the out side of the cowl.
Preferably to a ram air scoop using metal ducting.
There is nothing wrong with a little exhaust gas coming
out of the ram air scoop at idle. Perhaps the prop blast
at idle would be enough to overcome what ever exhaust pressure
was in the duct and the flow would be back and not forward.
