Here is a spreadsheet I found on the EAA website, written by Neil Wilford.

This is similar to what I have in mind. You enter horsepower, rpm
airspeed, altitude, etc and it comes up with pitch and diameter size as
well as the actual blade angles, chord, etc.

I think there is a Sport Aviation article that goes with this, so if
someone has it and can scan it in, it would probably help in using the
spreadsheet. It appears to be from 2004.

The spreadsheet looks pretty good and is based on equations found in
NACA papers. One thing that could make it better is graphing so you can
better visualize things like efficiency and advance ratio of different
props at different speeds.

I'm still going to try to work up what I think would be a useful
spreadsheet, but this is pretty good.
