Hi Paul,

A few weeks back you mentioned using Streets and Trips 2006 as a moving
map. A friend of mine had the very same idea. He found that he could
import data and coordinates from database files into the program. So we
searched the internet for airport database files we could use.

We found one, Airports of the World.

We imported the database into streets and trips and saved it as a File.

All that is required is to save the attachment to your desktop or some
easy to access file on a computer that has Streets and Trips Installed.
Open by double clicking on the Icon and it will automatically open the
streets and trips program with the database already loaded.

Right clicking on one of the airport markers (one of the little plane
pushpins) and clicking on ?info? will display data about the airport
such as runway length, Field Altitude, lat/long, phone #, fuel, etc.

When we imported it into the program we found that the lat long data was
in the wrong format, causing the program to only display the airports in
North America in the right place. It was missing the NSWE designators
and instead had  a - (hyphen) to indicate south and east lat/long.

So I went ahead and edited all the lat/long cells took me a couple of
days to figure out how to do it and about 4 hours to collate the
airports into 4 Quadrants before I could edit them. (NW,NE,SW,SE).

 I then had to remove the ? (hyphen) from the south and east quadrants
and then add the N,S,E,W, to each cell. Took some fancy work in excel to
get the database useable.

The Airport database is NOT up to date and accuracy of the data for each
airport has NOT been checked. Like I said it is just a database we found
on the net. So you should double check the accuracy of the data of any
airports you are interested in.

My friend flew cross country using it (Denver to Alabama) and said the
data for the airports he stopped at was spot on and it worked like a
champ. He really liked it and was very happy with it. He said he kept
his map view at about 5 miles.
