Paul,
Just ordered the 28/40 proto board, a 28X, 40X chip, Download cable and
a 4Mhz resonator.  Can't wait to get started. Still wondering how to do
the data display.

You did not get the download cable? Very important.
The board I bought from Peter Anderson was $33 with 18x chip and
everything and an RS232  connector. Assembled and tested.
No cable but I already have a RS232 to USB cable. That is
how the display data gets sent back to the PC.
Here too is the back side of the 8 pin version which
is a similar PC board.

It is only an 18x so it has a limited number of three A to D's.
I am not going to implement all the sensors Doc is talking
about so 18 pins ought to be enough for a test system.
I am going to program it to put out a series of pulse
widths so I can calibrate the 3rd gen RX7 fuel pump flow as
a function of pulse width. I'll need to add an FET to control
the .5 ohm (6 amps) fuel pump. I will also send the pulse width
data back to the PC as a demo.

Yes I ordered the cable and went through World Education Service website as
they had a proto board that handles the 28 or the 40pin chip.  What I meant
was how to display info in the AC not during programing.  I suppose I could
find a tablet PC with flash memory and no hard drive and run several programs
at the same time. Keep it connected through the serial port.

Yes that is exactly what I had in mind. Used Tablet PC should
be getting cheap. Take out the hard drive, insert a 4 gig
USB flash drive to boot off and you are home free :)


Just be sure the BIOS supports booting from a USB device.
