Hi Paul,

   You are essentially correct.  Trim is a "learned" value that is
specific for your engine at the moment.  The RX8 has 3 trim levels:
Idle and just above; from that point up through light cruise; and from
that point up through about steady state 75 mph cruise.  Interesting
thing is that the highest level "sticks" during high power use.  This
trim is constantly being updated during closed loop operation, and can
be built in as little as a minute, though sometimes it can take much
longer.  The only ways to avoid it and run on the basic map are to
either disable the #1 O2 sensor so the engine cannot go into closed loop
(not a good idea) or reset the PCM (pull the "room" fuse in the driver's
kick panel), then do not operate the engine in the third level of thim.
This way, the engine never gets a chance to build the third level trim
until you go to full power - at which time it is in open loop.  The Trim
is an enrichment factor.

Thanks for the input on this Jim. I am about to run another
test from dead cold on the Honda. The box will also work on
the RX8 which I will do shortly.
