I am thinking of doing a cast transition flange for the six port RX8
engine that will mate the ports to 2.125 OD tube for the outer ports
and 1.75 OD tube for the inner ports.
Both sizes of tube bends have a three inch center line radius.
The manifold shown is tuned for max power at about 7500 RPM
with good cruise BSFC.
The sheet metal plenum is set up for an aircraft up draft carb. Anything else
is possible as injector bungs can be welded on if you want to go EFI.
A side draft 50 mm Weber mounted on top of the engine
with much shorter tubes could be used for cars. Tuned for 11,000 RPM. Most of the
car manifolds out there now for rotaries are flawed. To quote Matt Prather:
--------------------------------------------
"I think the organ pipe tuning effects are most apparent
in the section of pipe extending from the intake port to the first
main discontinuity in the runner. Any significant change in runner
cross section or shape causes what is essentially an impedance mismatch,
which causes a reflection. That reflection causes a momentary pulse of
pressure to travel back down the runner towards the port. If the timing
of that reflection coincides with the timing of the port drawing air in
for the next rotor face, the net volumetric efficiency is increased
(maybe significantly)..
Organ pipe effects in sections of the runner further from the intake port
(after the first discontinuity) are much attenuated because that first
discontinuity absorbs much of the energy of port intake event."
snips...
Matt Prather."
End of quote.
I also don't think there is anything out there now for the RX8
engine.
If I do it maybe Mazdatrix might sell it. If not I won't
do it.
