Paul, check out this set of louvers made by a Zenith 601  builder.  I
don't know how he did it as I cannot see a weld between the
triangular ends and the louvers.  I am going to write to the  builder
to find out more. Perhaps someone on the list can offer insight.
This one is set up to go over a VW Rabbit radiator but no  reason  that
I can see that a similar one could not be made to fit any  situation.

How come you are not building a 801 instead of a 701?
The 801 will accommodate a rotary. Looks like about the same amount
of work. There is no replacement for HP when it comes to getting
out of a short field at given aircraft weight. A 250 HP  p- port   rotary
with a variable pitch prop would give this airplane spectacular
short field take off characteristics. For getting into short fields
you could always drop an anchor attached to a bungee cord :)

You are right but bigger, heavier, etc is not the path I want to
follow.  I don't want a 4 place.  However, I am enjoying sheet metal
(I knew I would)  ..Who knows,  this one may not be the  last.       Jerry

After I cut down a few trees, there will be an 800 ft runway.  Good
approach on one end.  Not so good on the other but with the 701 I am
not worried.   In a few weeks I am going to fly one for the first
time.  It is an amphibian--I haven't been this excited about flying
in a long time.    Jerry

It can be just about any reasonable width.  I am thinking 50 ft is
plenty.

If you have the room a 45 degree, banked, race track style 180 degree turn will
allow you to pick up good speed just before you arrive at the start of the
800 foot runway proper. This can have trees on both sides of the turn.
Not too close :) It will take more than 50 feet wide however. It can be grass if you
wish.
