Paul:  I just received this from a RotorcraftForum.com
member who is a FAA-designated airworthiness examiner:

Hi Kevin. I just got this clarification.
TOM

Hello Tom,

For the purpose of meeting the LSA definition, the FAA
considers a Wankel (Mazda) type rotary engine to be a
reciprocating engine.

So it looks like the rotary is not excluded from LSA
rules...

Wow! Good news. Sounds like they changed their mind.
I'll forward this to Chris Dries. Perhaps this will convince him
to offer a LSA category aircraft with one of his Diamond two rotor engines.
Those of us building LSA would benefit greatly.
Here are some pictures when it was known as the Midwest engine.

Paul Lamar ...No rotor no motor.

I googled Diamond and got nothing.  I will try some different
combinations later.  I would love to put a little two rotor or a
single rotor in my STOL 701.  Engine limitations are 100 hp and 200
lbs.    Jerry

They don't put it on the web site because they don't want to be bothered.
Send them email: Diamond Chris Dries <c.dries@diamond-air.at>

Here are some shots that Mark Wrathal and I took at the factory Werner Nuestat
Austria.

Paul Lamar ...No rotor no motor.

Thought so. Sorry about late post running a huge back log .

Clifton.

Just been advised that the Light Sport lobby here in Australia is pushing
for 750 kilo (1650 lb) limit rather than the 600 Kilo (1320 lb) limit.
As we tend to follow the US lead on these things, can anyone say if there is
anything of a similar nature happening over there.
