Go for it.   You are a lot closer to John and I think I have my solution in
hand. As you know we are pretty space limited on the SeaWind.  Choices are
to cut, widen and reweld, or start from scratch.  I'll try the first
approach initially after the engine mock-up is finished.

For a turbo compound 13B or a 20B it will come out to about the same length,
ie  a tight squeeze with only an inch or two behind the front pulley to the
center of the firewall bulkhead on the front of our frame if you were to use
a firewall in that location. That is assuming my calculation of the distance
from the mounting bulkhead to the prop path center is correct at 72.20".
With the high thrust moment I am assuming that position should be fairly
exact. Our engine mount frame is approx. 33.5 inches to where the Lord
mounts pads normally attach. That leaves about 38.7 inches to fit it all in.

Widening the motor mount 5 to 5 1/2" on both sides does solve a lot of
problems and gives us some room to put two 12" by 24" radiators angled
upwards towards the engine within  the engine mount, one on each side and
fed with adjustable big ear scoops and a well designed duct.  Let the air
find its own way out the back through an opening in the upper cowl or duct
it out as well. Adjust for big ears on taxing and barely open on cruise.

Widening the motor mount also lets us do a nice extended beam mount like
Buly's with a oil pan plate mount, or a S. beam mount or many variations
there of.

Sounds good, I wonder what Bob Darrah  did for his
20B in his Seawind here in TX? Paul, is he still on the list? I'm still
exploring mounting a standard type turbo, perhaps behind the engine and the
bulkhead and installing a secondary firewall, a la many 540's and even
TIO550's.

I saw Bob in Lockhart but I did not see his airplane. No pictures. It is a big mystery :)
I did some 3D's for his cooling layout but I don't know what he actually decided
to do. Do you have a camera now Bob?
