Seems I spend more time fixing my Wife's computer that anything
else. Her mother board went out and I bought a new mother board but
Windows XP will no longer boot. It comes up in the BIOS and setup
fine. Naturally she did back up here data and I would like to get
that drive to boot.

Paul,
If the drive is recognized in the BIOS and the HD is not damaged (surface, etc.)
you can boot off the Windows disk, hit the F8 key to install....(don't panic here it won't format here) you should see a repair
option to reinstall Windows without losing your programs and files.  If you don't, then
bail out at that point and start over.  You will have a repair option when you first boot off of the disk but don't take that
on the first boot unless you think Checkdisk will fix your problem. Your problem is probably caused because changed your motherboard
and MS is trying to prevent bootlegging.  The reinstall will get you so you can load the drivers for the board and later registered
(validate) with Microsoft.  Online validation only works sometimes....call and validate via telephone.  Bill will give his blessing!;-)
I do this every day.  If it is data you need you can hook the drive as a slave. Hope this helps.
