How far do you have the engine from the firewall?  I think Perry's
in only a couple of inches... I'm trying to snug mine up as close as
possible.  Here are a couple of pictures with the engine positioned...
Still have to figure out what to do with the Turbo and intake... Sticks
up just a little... Also, need to finish the firewall before I weld the
MM braces. I want to ensure there is no interference between the
controls and the MM.

I am going to move it closer.

Are you going to use a jack screw linear actuator as a front strut
mount. Great idea.
I think Burt Rutan would be really interested in this. Imagine a
vectored thrust Long EZ. Should help with takeoff and maybe landing.
Should turn like an F35 :)

Hi Paul
The design I'm working on is a simple wheel (like a trim wheel) that
is 30:1 geared using a push pull lube to a bell crank.  Trying to keep
it simple.  I'll send some pictures when I get it all working.  There is
some issues with integrating the x-brace as it looks like it will
interfere with the oil pan... So side braces to the spar may be the way
to go.  Sure wish I didn't need them... That would solve a lot of
interference problems when the engine pitches +/- 10 deg.  Can you show
a drawing in Rhino with the Engine pitched +/- 10 deg so I can determine
the minimum distance from the firewall I need to place the engine to
eliminate it hitting the firewall when it pitches?

Mike C.

Here it is. I think you are going to need a dry sump system for two
reasons.
One, capacity and two, oil pick up when tilted down or back.

Dry Sump would solve a lot of problems but add a lot of $$.  Once It is
mounted, I can do some worst case scenarios and see if the pickup tube
is uncovered.  Could you tell what the optimal distance from the
firewall should be from the pulley so there isn't any interference at
+/- 10?

Mike C

1.88 inches. The problem any reasonable size oil pan is going to hit the
X brace when tilted up.

Your right Paul... I may have to go with a side brace attached to the
C-Spar.  That might solve some of the Radiator integration issues as
well. I was hoping not to have to do that.  Any Idea what a dry sump
system would cost or who makes one?  It would be the cleanest way and I
could move some more weight forward like the Oil? Not sure if the
overall weight of a dry sump would be less or more.

They vary in price. Ray Richardson/Power Sport/Ratech Machine, Inc.
used to make them for Mazda Racing and they were built in to the front cover.
Perhaps you can find one on ebay. Been around for 20 years or so I suspect.
Other than that check with Summit racing. The Barnes brand comes to mind.
