Hello Paul,

Thanks again for all of this info. Stuff is priceless. I contacted a
local rotary head and he is going to let me take one apart with him to
see all of the little passages and such I cant make out from the
diagrams. This is getting fun.

My idea is to mate two separate stock rx-8 shafts by sliding each end
into  a coupler that is also the gear that connects to the transmission.
I havent decided on the method of
attachment(splines, keyed, polygon, hirth) yet because I am looking at
which end to do it on. I am curious if the e shaft can be flipped 180
and still work correctly in the region between the two lobes. It looks
to be symmetric in that region. Once I have the two keyed sides or the
two tapered sides facing each other I will figure out exactly what to
do. I am leaning toward the straight key side right now because it has
more options to be machined and I would be able to use modified balance
weights.

My second question is on the four rotor engine they commonly talk about
a centralized cooling and oiling system. It is my understanding that
they treat the engine as two separate "convective" loops to control the
temp gradiant across the engine. Is this assumption correct or is that
just BS and they flow coolant and oil from one end all the way to the other.

Rob Woods

Yes that is true. A step towards real parallel cooling.
