Paul,
I'm at the point of doing my prop shaft and have decided to do it in a
two piece, joined as in the Mazda flywheel i.e. taper with key. I have
found a chap who has done a number of flywheels for the Rotary and he's
doing the single crank. He has all the details of the taper and keyway,
so I will utilize that data.
I was wondering what the thickness of Tracy's flange and shaft. I don't
intend copying Tracy's design just looking for a guide to strength. I
figure the 43mm ( as in the crank) will be more than enough.

It is all a function of prop weight. A taper type design is not as strong as
a forging. Tracy's forging is around 1.375 as I recall. So 1.693" should be strong
enough for wood props. A Lycoming that must deal with 50 pound metal
constant speed props is about 2.25 to 2.375 " in diameter.

Here are some other designs that are out there but not very successful in terms
of sales.
