Are vibration dampeners normally used with belt drives? Would they
be similar to Tracy's? I have heard it said the belts naturally
absorb vibration but I am skeptical. Paul, in your spare time how
about knocking out a set of belt drive plans--just to show what is
required. :) Jerry
I think you need one. Some of the coolest are found in the hubs
of off road motocross motor bikes. Here are some pictures.

I think they are present in MOST bikes wheel hubs.
At least these are, in my two (litre class) sport bikes.

I notice with my 18,000 Suzuki, there are 6 or 8 dampers of similar
design
to Tracy's. I'm going by memory here but the grommet type dampers press
into one side, with drive pins to the other side, which go through the
center of the grommet. I agree with Richard that they need to be
centrally
placed, but I lean to a harder damper as outlined in a past Contact Mag
article on 4 cylinder dampening.

than the damping requirements for a one rotor rotary.

George, the reduction of torque pulse influence on the running condition can
only be achieved by a low resonance frequency of the drive train and
maintaining a god damping factor.
Resonance frequency is determined by the rotatong inertia and the damper
spring constant, for all practical purposes. The damping factor is better as
closer the damper is to the center of the rotation axis.
Since there is a limit in having a heavy flywheel, the only thing we have to
maximize is the damper. That leaves us with a damper, which is small in
diameter, and as soft as possible.
My latest runs with gear box and prop demonstrated the dimensioning I came
up with meet these requirements.
