What type of varnish or shellac should I use on this? part is finished
except for trimming the outer ring off by hand and filling a few knot holes.

You can still buy shellac and shellac is the traditional stuff.
There may be something better out there since 1947 but I do not know
what that would be. Three coats of shellac are called out with fine sanding
between coats. Then waxing is called out.
That pattern looks wonderful Larry. I am sure a lot of people
will join me in thanking you for this wonderful effort.
You have done a great service to the cause of furthering rotary engines
in aircraft.

I will raid Lowes on the way home tonight to get some shellac. If this mold
will not make the qty of parts required, it is not an issue to cut one out
of aluminum once the design is proven. George has a great idea in using 3/4
ounce glass. I use it when building RC jets and it may be a great
alternative to using aluminum for the cores. It would greatly increase the
durability. I will use it on a future core... Thanks George.
And this is only the beginning... this forum has some great minds at work,
so many things are possible and probable as we get the ball rolling.
Everyone's feedback on what we are doing is valuable and greatly
appreciated.
