I am looking for a stand alone ignition system to use with my mechanical
fuel injection.
Does anybody have an experience with this system. I understand that all it
needs is power and a input from a trigger wheel. The units and the trigger
wheels can be found in junk yards I am sure. I can also make a trigger
wheel
with a plasma cutter.

Ford used the EDIS module on a number of vehicles from 1990 to 199X.
The EDIS-4 module is used on the following vehicles equipped with the 1.9

Hi Paul,
I have the trigger wheel for this system. I replaced the motor in my
mother-in-law's Escort. I may even have the trigger and the coil too. The
trigger wheel is part of the crank pulley and balancer. They are yours if

After giving it considerable thought, I think the EDIS is the simplest most
economical route to go.
Paul, if you will take a pix of the rotor and publish it, I will make a
Rhino 3D and see if I can make one. If anyone else is interested, I will
make enough for all. I might need some help with the electronics.

Wouldn't a flywheel style magneto be the simplest way to have ignition?
The primary and secondary coil are part and parcel to these devices.
With a 13B rotary we only have two combustion areas and if we fire both
plugs together than we would only need two flywheels. These flywheels
could be very small in diameter and thickness. Perhaps small enough to fit
where the distributor or timing sensor usually goes on the 13Bs. Anything
in this location will turn at half the speed of the e-shaft but that is good
for a magneto.
The design would be a double decker, two magnets on each flywheel servicing
two coils for rotor housing. That is four total for each. The coils are
mounted in the magneto housing and each coil on each deck would go to a
leading and trailing plug on a rotor housing. The flywheel deck magnets are
180 degrees apart. The top deck and bottom deck are skewed 90 degrees.
The top flywheel would have the magnets at 0 and 180. The bottom flywheel
would have the magnets at 90 and 270. In operation each coil sees a magnet
come by (not the same one) every 180 degrees, which corresponds to 360
degree of the e-shaft revolutions.
In application the housing like a distributor could be rotated a bit to
advance or retard the timing.
This is the mechanical fail safe system. Shown below is the Revmaster
combination magneto and generator. It is much more complicated then we need
and we would make the device in the reverse. IE. inner flywheel spinning
and outer coils.
Now my question is could we piggy back an EFIS controlled capacitor with
the flywheel system so the plugs could be fired twice per combustion event?
Why? Answer: 1. To improve fuel burn.
2. Having two ignition systems one electronic, the other electro mechanical
as double redundancy.
The obvious problem would be in switching the high voltages and making sure
there were no feed backs into the parallel power supplies. No mean feat.
This is in the realm of high power switching devices.
