As you know by now,my question will always be twofold. One for the
Vision and one for the Triumph Spitfire. Rotarys will be used in
both. Has anybody used an electric cooling fan on an aircraft(for
extended taxi operations) and how does an electric fan compare to the
viscous fan on my 13B Turbo engine?

The large diameter high HP version certainly work at low taxi speeds.
The current drain should be at least 30 amps or about 360 watts which is about 1/2 HP.
The big advantage is you can switch it off when you don't need it. The downside is
it blocks some of the air flow through the core.
The engine driven mechanical viscous fan on the other hand can be as much as 3 or 4 HP
or more at high engine RPM. Not practical for an aircraft due to ducting limitations.

Hi Paul,
The people recently discussing fans might be interested in this
modification made to the fan mounted in front of the rad in my Honda
EB3 powered BD-5. I've removed every other rib and could probably have
taken out more. It netted me an increase of some 10 square inches in
unobstructed air flow. Probably could remove more ribs but didn't want
to have the fan break loose.
