I am trying to think in the same lines as your "lightweight two piece
endhousing" made of aluminum.

Can we take it a step further? Can the Wankel rotary engine be
lightened by making some components out of composite materials?
Yes, I have read about the piston "plastic engine" made of Torlon back
in the 1980's. I want to go beyond that.
ANY composite material, used in places where composite materials would
be most useful:
* end housings
* side housings
* rotors
* manifolds
Which composite materials would be good for which parts of the rotary
engine?
Why?
Why not?
How do we know?
What do we know that we do not know?
A lighter engine would result in less weight for the airplane to have to
lug around.
