It always amazes me that some people at Mazda don't understand
what they have in the rotary. This year they installed a 2 Liter 4 cyl turbo
charged hand grenade in the P2 American Lemans race car. It blew up in
the race. Duh. Dumb!
"The new engine, a clean sheet design, is a turbocharged 2.0 liter in-line four cylinder."

Mazda powerplant present in the B-K Motorsports' entry the past two seasons. The
performance goals for the engine are 500hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, with the durability
to succeed in such grueling races as Sebring and Petit Le Mans. The engineering team
is working to incorporate the production-based Mazda Direct Injection Spark Ignition
(DISI) system into the race motor. The technical collaboration between Mazda and AER
has been non-stop in preparation for the season-opener at Sebring."
I could have told them that. Poetic justice. They should have put more effort into
getting the rules changed so the three rotor could breath. Or run a turbo three rotor.
Or run a NA four rotor if the three rotor did not have enough HP for the class. The race
organizer stuck a draconian induction air flow re-stricter and an excess minimum weight
limit on the car in years past.
This race series is BS anyway as they change the car specification rules such as
minimum weight and the size of the air flow re-stricter race by race to favor one
car over another. Shades of the late 1980's when IMSA rotaries were required
to carry 650 pounds of lead ballast.
