Hi Paul,
on that Mazda video on YouTube about rotary engine production they make
mention of a 16b with aluminum side housings as a future project.
It refers to increasing the capacity by increasing the "stroke". I
guess they mean increasing the eccentric distance. Most of us thought
that the ideal would be to increase the rotor width to 100 mm. Do you
know anything of this?

I can't find anybody that will admit to anything. If they do increase "e"
it might be for a higher compression ratio. They do tell me wider rotors
(100 mm) are out. Too bad as the new engines will have all new parts.
I would just be ecstatic if it was all aluminum.

Here are a few guess's.
Rotor the same width (80 MM) outside width +1 inch to 13 5/8
I am surprised. I would think a wider rotor would give a better
combustion chamber shape. Looks like they just scaled it up in 2D :)
Outside height to + 1.5 to 14 inches less the direct injectors.
e/R looks the same. My guess is high RPM is now going to be more
of a problem. They may reduce the red line. consequently max power with
a p-port ataround 10,000 RPM will be down. Too bad. If I were doing it
would go wider rotor and use an aux P-port.
Max power p-port at 7500 RPM should be up to about 285 HP.
Great for the tilt rotor VTOL.
Perhaps wider would be a problem for the phasing gears.
Well one up side it will fit in an RX8 with minimal changes :)
Should plug right in to an RX8 car.
Weight about 185 +/- 5 pounds. Not much less than the current RX8 motor
despite the aluminum end housings.

Yes the show runs for several weeks. I will definitely be there with pen,
paper and camera in hand. I'll go twice if need be to speak with the 'right'
guys.

Hmmmmm ... just yesterday I decided that with a one half Lemans style
engine, injecting fuel after the P port closed would be counter productive
as the compression ratio would decrease encountering the cavity the
injectors reside in.
Perhaps I should have waited a day huh?:) It just goes to show that the
more I study about the rotary engine the less I seem to know:(
I have heard from sources over here that the engine will run on gasoline or
hydrogen. I suspect but haven't confirmed, the engine is set up to run on
E-85 as well. I would make sense. The engine in the picture appears
peppered with injectors. My guess is as follows. It looks like a (green)
fuel injector on the left shooting into the side port, an oil injector
above that, two hydrogen injectors at 11:00 o'clock and the high pressure
direct injector at 12:00 o'clock.
With a small turbo this baby could clear 300Hp easily. Manifold may not
clear the cowling though.
