Paul,  This engine/nose gear mount looks inadequate to me but it is
on a certified airplane. Trying to further my understanding, I would
be interested in your comments.  Jerry

Believe it or not that is a lot better than the traditional Continental
bed mount. The rectangular tubing adds the critical bending strength required.
The nose gear load goes directly into the engine where it belongs. Much like
a Bonanza.

Just remember the CG of the engine is half way between the front and back rubber
bushings. That is a far stronger mount than the one on a C182 for example.
Somewhat heavier however. The guy that designed Bellanca's was no dummy.

Remember that nose gear takes less load that any other type, just enough
weight to keep the tail up while you taxi around.

Unlike a tailwheel, the nosewheel is not used in landing, and what shock
it gets is attenuated by the shock absorbers.  All the tailwheel on most
planes have is a flat spring, to absorb a lifetime of ham-handed
3-point-3-times landings AND to hold the same weight as a nose gear does
(most of the weight of the plane is always on the mains).

Depends on who is doing the landing :)

If you can walk away from it, the nose gear took less load than a
3-point landing on a tailwheel.  ;)

I have seen people land on the nose gear and walk away.
I have flown into and out of plenty of very rough airstrips in
the US as well as Baja, Canada and Alaska. That is why bush planes are tail
draggers.
