Did you check out the stage 2 version? It is fully adjustable via
PDA and
their software.

Aren't there multiple generations of factory ECU's? I'd guess that
different years might have different behaviors. Especially the gen3
cars..
If my computer had a limp home mode, I'd test it on the ground at least
once.. Figure out a way to reliably cause it - disconnect a sensor, add
a switch, whatever. Run up to 2000RPM, turn it on and see how it does.
Cool, reset, and increase the power setting for the test point. Keep
doing that until you are at essentially cruise power. Assuming that
running the experiments at lower power settings doesn't cause anything
seriously bad to happen..
Is limp-home reset on power-cycling the ECU?

The 2nd gen is most common and probably by far the cheapest to be
had in junkyards
or on ebay. It will work on any generation engine.
It is kind of easy to simulate a 2nd gen mass air flow sensor as all
it is
is a spring loaded trap door connected to a pot. One could hook a
large pot
in parallel and try twisting it if one suspected the mass air flow
sensor
failed. In other words all it does is a supply a zero to 5 volt signal
to the ECU. Same goes for the throttle position sensor.

I am just interested in seeing how well the engine runs when in
limp-home mode - if there's any chance that it might happen while I am
flying the airplane. Perry told us the minimum power requirement for
level flight (at some weight and altitude?). I want to know if I get
that much power in limp home..
It's also worth considering what the failure mode is for each sensor
circuit. It seems likely that the leads the sensor will fail either
short or open, while a functioning sensor might rarely (never) produce
readings that look like a short or open. Either of those conditions
should be easy to detect. Similarly, at least one fail mode for a pot
is open circuit on the wiper. Easy to detect. So, unplugging the
sensor might be a way to convince the computer that it should limp
home. Other sensors might have similarly easily detectable fail
conditions.
