Rumor has it, and as I recall Ford, no longer controls Mazda. I could
be wrong. The current president is Japanese and not an American.
Ford still own a large amount of stock but I think control
has passed back into the Japanese family owning a larger amount
of the stock.

Yes, much the way Daimler still owns 20% in Chrysler and Daimler /
Chrysler still owns much stock in Mitsubishi, Detroit Diesel, and VM
Motori whom GM just bought a good share of (For the CRD diesel for the
new  Cadillacs) - So they are all a mixing bowel of owners and bosses.

Ford announced this month a $1 Billion investment with Mazda in Thailand
for their planned Asian expansion. Google searches still show Ford with
33% of Mazda - that's still controlling interest. Maybe someone has a
better source?

I think Ford owned 35% at one time. The Japanese family that owned most
of the stock previously has bought some back from Ford I think or perhaps
they bought it on the open market.
