Got the P Port mockup engine installed and mocked up the slide
throttle
and headers. I think I can get the same length described in the NACA
report for rectangular augmenter by putting it on top. The intake
runners will run down to the wing root area in back of the spar far
away
from the exhaust. I can use a small armpit scoop or a NACA for engine
charge air. The headers are mocked up with PVC pipe 2" ID so they
will
be a lot smaller in dia. I want to put a heat shield around it and
plumb it up to the augmenter and put the opening in the bottom toward
the rear to get airflow around the headers. The last picture is a 3"
X
10" furnace duct that will be shorter to clear the prop circle and
will
flare out in the front to confor to the inner shape of the upper cowl.
The whole cowl will be sealed.

Looks pretty good to me, I think. Please doodle into the picture (using
MSpaint or similar) the path of cooling air through the engine
compartment. In the belly and out the eductor? You might still need
some strategically placed heat shields on the pipes - like where they
run close to the motor mount and firewall.
Do you read the canard aviators Yahoo group, Joe? Al Wick recently
mentioned running the exhaust close the prop hub will lead to hotter
blades then if exhausted further outboard. Maybe too hot. Mixing the
engine exhaust air with the cooling exhaust air will help some, but it
may be difficult to tell how much.
There's no rule saying the system has to be perfectly symmetrical
left-right. The exhaust and cooling air could all exit the cowl to one
side. Maybe on left side of the airplane - opposite where the stacks
come out of the engine. That might allow an augmenter of more idealized
proportions - the exhaust stack would end near the front of the augmenter.

Here is some visual data on the subject Matt. This the p-port 2 rotor
Velocity aircraft that went 205 MPH in the Dayton to OSH race. It has an
augmenter.
There is little or no exhaust discoloration on the prop.

The exhaust runs into the augmenter- and then there's the outer ( slightly
flattened) cone, is that feeding air from the engine bay or Rads?
