Dear Mr. lamar,
Thank you for your very informative website. I have visited it many
times and learn a bit more each time. I am in the process of
designing the FWF for a Glasair Sportsman 2+2 with a Mazda 2-rotor
engine. The cooling is a true challenge, in that I would prefer not
to have to do it over and over again until I get it right!

Your website describes the motor mount for a Glass Star (Glastar?),
which uses the same firewall as the Sportsman. Can you tell me who is
flying the Glastar with the rotary? Or have them get in touch with
me? I would like to learn from the experience that they have gained.

You show a drawing of the motor mount for a Questair (http://
www.rotaryeng.net/rv6load.gif)... there is a "PAN DETAIL 4X SCALE" in
the drawing.... is this using the pan itself as part the motor mount?
I have been considering a redesigned pan structure that would include
the lower two motor mounts. The Sportsman has a 5th, top-center
firewall hard-point that can be used to support the top of the engine
to make a three-point mount that reaches nearly to the vertical plane
of the CG of the engine/reduction/prop package.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Best regards,

Tom

The oil pan is not really part of the motor mount.
It is modified to accommodate the Schertz Beam and increase
the oil capacity. The more oil that is in there the longer
it takes to heat it up. So there is less oil cooling
required on takeoff and climb out. My O-470 has 12 quarts.

Here is Sigard Ganswindt rotary powered Glasair Sportsman.
Nice job. I don't have an email address for him.
