First get a cheap proto. PC boards from Radio Shack
and a handful of cheap 1/4 watt resisters and practice soldering.
DigiKey or Mouser has cheaper parts than Radio Shack. You will also
need a small pencil soldering iron around 20 to 50 watts.

I hired and trained computer repair staff at U of M a while back - you'd
be surprised how many Engineers and Tech did not know how to properly
solder. Jerry, unless you are certain you know how to solder properly,
please also invest in learning from an expert. It only takes a few
minutes to learn what seems like an intuitive process. If you don't, you
can easily have cold solder joints, fried components, cracks, etc. - or
ALL on the same board. These problems always lead to problems later.
