I noticed Dave Garber's name come up.  I'm pretty sure he was the one
building a pusher-tractor type race plane with Mazda engines some years ago.
What happened to this aircraft?  Did it ever fly?

yes it flew. I borrowed it a couple years ago and ran it up
in the work shop area at Sun & Fun. One powerful mother.
Two 350 HP turbo charged 12A engine with Bell 47 final drive gear boxes.
Last I heard Dave Still has it. I think Doug saw him last and
got some Bell 47 gear box parts from Dave.

It is no longer competitive in the Reno unlimited class and
it does not qualify for the Sportsman class. Top speed is only
about 400 MPH.

Steve, Everyone,

I am in contact with Dave.  He suffered a mild stroke and is currently
grounded
from flying.  His plane and or engines are up for sales.  His engines are
12a turbocharged built up by Racing Beat with a special front housing to
accept two aircraft mags. Dave is a retired Pan Am and ex military pilot.
Yes he has experience flying the turbo-compound Connies as well.
He is a heck of nice guy and would be willing to consult with anyone willing
to get his plane in race condition.

I've suggested Georgia Tech nearby his Atlanta home.

Sorry to hear about the heart attack. Dave is a neat guy.
The engines and Bell 47 gear boxes would be a great buy.
Those engines were recently over hauled by Racing Beat. They
run fine and are very powerful. I know. I ran them up at Sun & Fun.

It wasn't a heart attack, it was a mild stroke. You know like an small
embolism in ones brain.  He was stumbling one night at a party but luckily
his son recognized the symtoms and they rushed him to the hospital.  The
result was only minor paralysis and he could very well be back in the saddle
again in a few years.  I am hoping so.
I have an email address, actually his wife, and Dave never seems to get my
correspondence.  Hmmmm?

His wife has always been very adamant about him not racing that bird.
I always resort to snail mail or the telephone.
