Subject: 12a Single Rotor RUNS!

Concerns/Questions:
1. Edis-4 timing and tach hook-up?
Does one count the missing tooth on Edis 36-1 wheel as #1 of 9
for 10 degrees advance? I'm useing 1 coil #1 & #4 to fire the plugs?

2. The oil flow schematic in Mazda maint. manual seems to depict an
internal rear housing to front housing path that supplies the oil
injection pump.
I attached an oil press gauge to a fitting on the pump block of
plate, No oil press!
Engine E-Shaft lube was determined by the Psru return flow via .050
orface
on Prop end of the E-shaft.
Whats best place to monitor E-Shaft oil press?

3. Can anyone identify the source of Psru gea
Rolland,

1. EDIS: The teeth are 10 degrees apart and the sensor is to be 90
degees from the missing tooth when the missing tooth is TDC. EDIS
defaults to 10 BDTC when the SAW wire is unhooked (limp mode), so
unhook the SAW and it should fire at 10 BDTC.
 From the MegaSquirt Manual: "http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/EDIS.htm"

3. PSRU: Are those straight cut gears?

1. Thanks Blake. Good info. So that is why the picture shows it
mounted at about 100 degrees BTDC. The oringinal builder of the engine was looking for 20 degrees before Top Dead Center.

2. Dang! Why did I not notice that that? You are right straight cut gears.
Cannot be a Ford C6. Perhaps they are GM parts.

Paul/Rolland,
Missed that myself!
Looks like a nice planetary Rolland, can you give some sizes of the Ring
gear and the sun gear.
The C6  has a RG of 78 teeth and sun gear of 42 teeth ( 78/42 = 1.085 +1=)
2.85:1 Ratio. With planet teeth of (78-42=36/2=) 18.
( 94 = +2x2 spaces ) holding teeth on the outer C6 ring gear.

Rolland's RG of  59 teeth with sun gear of 31 (59/31 = 1.9+1 =) 2.9 :1
ratio, with planet teeth of ( 59-31=28/2=) 14.
The 58 outer toothed (with 2 spaced keyway) RG is held so the +1 is a
given).

Not bad at all, I like it, I certainly would like to know where it came from
as I like the straight cut teeth.

The Planet itself may be smaller than the C6, which is OK for a single OR
the teeth may be bigger than the C6 - that's why I asked for sizes.

Any chance running it by your transmission people Paul?
George (down under)

I'll take a look in the catalog. OK I looked. There is not one set
of straight cut gears. They have a CD with the GM Powerglide which I believe
might be straight cut. By far the vast majority of auto TX's out
there have helical cut gears.

B&M apparently makes straight cut gears for GM Powerglide TX's.

Download section 6.pdf B&M catalog. Look on page 83.
1.8 translates to 2.80:1 if power is taken out of the planet carrier
and the ring gear is held steady.

Perhaps Larry Childs will build a planet carrier for us
using B&M straight cut gears. It is going to be expensive.

Sorry Larry :)
