One of the Pontiac's will win in GT.  I have this from a source deep
inside Nascar.  Mazda was given the pole.  And the leading RX-8 has
run like a pig with Ham behind the wheel.

We won. Five laps ahead after a flat out 24 hour race. 1st, 5th and 10th in GT class.
We were out numbered 10:1 by Porsche and Ferrari. Four out of four RX8's entered
finished when there is a typical 50% DNF result in these 24 hour races.
2500 miles. LA to NY.

I'll bet Porsche and the Germans are sorry they did not stick to the rotary :)
Porsche must be embarrassed after entering 40 cars and they were unable
to beat four cheap Mazda RX8's :)

John Dinkel was wrong. Pontiac did not win the GT class or the  prototype class.
A Toyota (Lexus same'O same' O) push rod NASCAR V8 powered car won the proto class.

Sure is nice to know when the fix is in; unfortunately, in racing, it
doesn't always work out. Even unlimited money can't always win. Do you think
this fellow was just seeing what he could do to raise our blood pressure?

John Dinkel is just being John Dinkel. I have known him for 35 years.
Former managing editor of Road & Track. He got me started in the
automotive test equipment biz around 1975. World traveler. Author of several
very nice hard bound coffee table books on the RX7 and RX8 among others.
Fan of the rotary  engine. He still does PR for Mazda.
